Digitisations and Restorations (3) - Screenings round the world



Associate Editor (Restorations and Revivals) Simon Taaffe has come across the following screenings. Click on the links for times etc.


At New York’s wonderful Film Forum there are screenings of the Marx Brothers Duck Soup and Gillo Pontecorvo’s The Battle of Algiers. The former is a DCP restoration the latter  is restored in 4K by Fondazione Cineteca di Bologna at L’Immagine Ritrovata, in collaboration with Casbah Films.

At the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) there are screenings of Kamikaze 89 in a new 35mm print. The film stars Rainer Werner Fassbinder in one of the last films he was associated with before his untimely death in the year the film was produced. It is directed by Wolf Gremm. Also at BAMPFA are screenings of a newly restored 35mm print of Max Ophuls 1948 Letter from an Unknown Woman. Scholar and critic David Thomson was advertised as doing an intro Lastly there are screenings of Carol Reed’s The Third Man in its digitally restored version.

In Sydney the Cremorne Orpheum is screening digitally restored copies of Sergio Leone’s The Good, The Bad and the Ugly and John Carpenter’s Halloween.
